Giving Tuesday & the Bill Thompson, III, Young Birders Fund

WHAT IS GIVING TUESDAY?
Giving Tuesday refers to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It is a movement to create an international day of charitable giving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season. This year, Giving Tuesday is December 2, 2019, and we are inviting you to consider giving to the Bill Thompson, III, Young Birders Fund this holiday season. Ninety percent of all charitable giving in the United States happens in the month of December each year, and we are hopeful that your generosity this December will help us make a difference in the lives of young birders in 2020!
Before Bill’s death in March 2019, I worked with Bill to establish a non-profit birding fund that would benefit young birders across the United States. The BT3YBF now supports six different birding organizations, all of which are committed to the education, training, and mentoring of up-and-coming young birders and leaders. Those worthy organizations include the American Birding Association, Leadership Fayette County (West Virginia), the Ohio Ornithological Society, the Hog Island Audubon Camp, the Tucson Audubon BT3 Young Birders Award, and the Ohio Young Birders group.
Thanks to our generous birding community, we are quite close to our goal. This will enable us to send six young, eager birders to birding camps and mentoring sessions, and to provide them with a new pair of Zeiss binoculars in 2020! BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP TO REACH THE FINISH LINE. We’re almost there!
Will you consider sharing a gift of any amount today to help us reach our goal before the end of 2019? Whether you are able to give $5 or $5000, every dollar will be lovingly invested in young birders who would not otherwise experience the in-depth training and mentoring that your gift will provide.
Our global birding community is stronger together, and Bill Thompson, III, was incredibly gifted at bringing good folks together to support birds, birders, and conservation. His heart for young birders exceeded even his passion for birds and nature. He wanted to continue to invest in the training and education of young birders long after he left this world. On the day he died, I promised him that I would help make that happen, which is why I’m reaching out to you today.
As Mother Teresa said, “Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.”
On behalf of Bird Watcher’s Digest, the Thompson family, and these six birding organizations, we thank you, in advance, for helping all of us do small things with great love.
Wishing you and yours a beautiful, birdy holiday season!
With much gratitude,
President and Publisher
