Charley Harper loved animals and nature but was quick to remind folks that he was an artist, not a naturalist: "I think flat, simple, and funny." In a style he called "minimal realism," Harper used geometric shapes, patterns, and vivid colors to simplify nature's complexities and bring out each critter's personality. With the cheeky tail end of a deer or the chubby cheeks of a squirrel snacking at a bird feeder, Harper's artwork makes viewers smile.
In simple shapes and patterns, and vivid colors, Harper captured the essence of each animal he depicted. Superbly composed, fresh, dynamic, and witty, the twelve images in this calendar include the following works: Flamingo a Go Go, Loonrise, Biodiversity in the Burbs, Insect Diversity, Limp on a Limb, Birducopia, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, Prickly Pair, Cardinal Courtship, Bark Eyes, Mystery of Missing Migrants, and B-r-r-r-rthday. Size: 12 x 13 in. Opens to 12 x 26 in
