Charley Harper loved animals and nature but was quick to remind folks that he was an artist, not a naturalist: "I think flat, simple, and funny." In a style he called "minimal realism," Harper used geometric shapes, patterns, and vivid colors to simplify nature's complexities and bring out each critter's personality. With the cheeky tail end of a deer or the chubby cheeks of a squirrel snacking at a bird feeder, Harper's artwork makes viewers smile.
In simple shapes and patterns, and vivid colors, Harper captured the essence of each animal he depicted. Superbly composed, fresh, dynamic, and witty, the twelve images in this calendar include the following works: Everglades National Park: Anhinga; Winter (detail); Cardinal; Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument, California; Plain and Fancy; Skimmerscape; Wings of the World; Foxsimilies; Red-eyed Vireos; The Sierra Range; The Lost Aphid, and Woodland Wonders. Size: 12 x 13 in. Opens to 12 x 26 in
